You are talking to someone and you start getting feelings in your body. You are considering what decision to make in a situation, and you get a feeling telling you which way to go. You meet someone and feelings start swirling around inside you. You call the client someone referred to you and you start getting feelings that you don't want to proceed with them.
What are these feelings? How do we interpret them? How do we know what is real information we can take from these feelings, and how do we use it? What is intuition, and what is fear?
These are questions that may come up if you cannot distinguish between intuition and fear, and for many people, that inability to be able to creates real dilemmas. We deliberate internally, to the point of indecision, because we are unsure how to interpret our feelings. We think we should proceed in a certain way, but in reality the intuition is correct, even if the direction it tells us to go seems wrong.
Over the years, what I have found is that when I get a feeling that is a decision, a feeling that is telling me which road to take, and I say "yes" and follow that intuition, it is correct. What I have found is that when I follow my intuition, even if it leads to temporary pain like ending a personal or client relationship, in the long run I am led to a better or higher place in my life.
Intuition, to me, is the decision feeling. Do it or not. Yes or no. Go or stay. The fear is the questions the mind creates after the feeling. "What if that does not work?" "You need the money, why are you saying no?" "But she is so cute, you should date her." "It may cause that part of the company to close down."
Many times your intuition is operating within the boundaries that you have intuitively created for yourself, or it is a mysterious, uplifting decision feeling that you may not have an explanation for. The fear is your mind bringing up emotions and situations from the past that are negative or resulted in pain from the past, and the mind tries to shield you from pain, even though many times your intuition, again, in the long run, is going to bring you to a higher place in your life.
Because deciding between intuition and fear comes up in my life, I have some steps I take to trust myself.
1. Eat healthy. When we eat healthy, our bodies are clean and light, energy is flowing properly, food is not digesting for long periods inside us, so we are able to better feel and recognize the various energies flowing inside us.
2. Sleep. When you sleep enough, you are alert throughout the day, and have better judgement. Your body and mind are sharp.
3. Emotional health. Like my clients, I continue to work on myself, do a daily meditative/other practice, work through my issues, and apologize to people so that I am working through emotions instead of suppressing them, which can lead to fear. As we do this, our mind and body becomes even sharper, and able to interpret based on love, not fear.
4. Keep track of intuitions. Keep a journal of the feelings you have, and if they were correct in the long run. When you do this, you also build up awareness of the many feelings you have that are working to continually elevate you and your situation.
5. Intuition with a lesson. Analyze whether you are afraid of success if you make a decision, or if you are truly in a situation that is not for your higher good. If the situation is not for your higher good, you may have a very active feeling that is your intuition telling you to get out of that situation. At the same time, you may be aware enough to learn some lessons. You can analyze the fear also as trapped emotions raised from the past, and why. This is a situation I had recently. It is extremely tricky, and I decided to honor the intuition and not allow the situation to continue, while at the same time analyzed the emotions and fears it brought up, which was a separate and very educational process.
6. Reading energy. There are people who can read other people's energy, the energy of a place, or hear or see things that others cannot in connection with a person, place, or situation. If you get a feeling in these situations to do something, honor it. These, and all intuitive situations, are highly individualized, and many times make sense to you only.
When you have goals in your life, or when you have a feeling you would like to maintain in your life, your intuition is there working for you. Your intuition is trying to bring you to that better or higher place in your life. You may not even realize where the intuition is trying to take you, but if you can distinguish between intuition and fear, you will follow your intuition into success.
Start keeping track of your feelings, and the outcome when you act on them. This will allow you to separate intuition from fear, and you will become a master of your own life!
